Lady "O"

Sister Smith is a native of Bienville, Louisiana.  She is a PK-child and very proud of it. After completing Shady Grove High School with honors, she attended Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.  One year after graduating from college on the Dean’s list, she happily married the handsome Lt. Marvin T. Smith.  She then moved to Ft. Campbell, Kentucky. There she worked as a Substitute Teacher and Assistant Manager of Claire’s Boutique.  While in Kentucky, she was able to fulfill her dream of pledging the distinguished  sorority of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Inc.

Three and one-half years later, Sister Smith moved to Nashville, Tennessee.  There she worked for the Internal Revenue Service for three years. Sister Smith left the IRS to pursue a teaching degree and certification.  In September 1994, she became the proud First Lady of the Mt. Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church in Donelson, Tennessee. In December 1997 she earned, while on the Dean’s List, her teacher certification and Master’s degree in Elementary Education.

Sister Smith was hired in August 1997 with the Davidson County Public School System as a 1st, then 4th grade teacher at Tom Joy Elementary.

Sister Smith continued her calling as a teacher until God changed the location of her husband’s calling.  In October 1998, Sister Smith became the proud First Lady of the Mt. Olive Institutional Missionary Baptist Church in Saginaw, Michigan. Sister ‘O’, as she is affectionately called, is an active member of the Christian Women Ministry, advisor to the Youth Choir, and Youth ministry.  She also has a gift of acting, writing and directing plays.  She was later hired with the Saginaw Public School System as a 1st, then 2nd grade teacher at Nelle Haley Elementary and Arthur Eddy Academy. She currently teaches at Jesse Loomis.

Sister O’s philosophy of living as a ‘Godly Woman,’ dedicated mother and supportive wife is based on Psalm 27.  For here she is reminded of God’s everlasting power and presence.

Sister O is blessed to be married to Rev. Dr. Marvin Timothy Smith and have five other blessings: Marche,’ Marcelle, Makenzie and grandsons Josiah Timothy and Jabari Trevelle.

Rev. Dr. Marvin T. Smith and Sis. Omie Anderson Smith retired from Mt. Olive on October 31, 2023
